Cornerstones Spring Updates
Kathryn Price and Michele Rubin are available for editorial work, and we want to hear from you on a new, exciting project!
Dear all,
Ahead of the long weekend, we’re here to share some updates from Cornerstones HQ! Including editor spotlights, Cornerstones news, and a new project that could involve you…
💡 Editor Spotlight
This month, we’re excited to let you know that top Industry editors Kathryn Price and Michele Rubin are available to work on projects!
Kathryn, who worked for Cornerstones as a managing editor and then co-director, is now focusing on the editorial side of the business and works closely with authors developing their manuscripts. Along with Helen Corner-Bryant, she co-wrote On Editing, the essential Cornerstones guide to writing and editing a successful novel, and she’s the in-house tutor for our online editing course, Edit Your Novel the Professional Way.
Work with Kathryn if…
You write SFF, literary, commercial or children’s fiction
You’re looking to submit soon or wanting to get editorial advice from someone who has worked for agencies
You’re struggling with self-editing and need some encouragement!
Michele is our Managing Editor in the US. She’s been in publishing for nearly 30 years and was a literary agent at Writers House for 25 years, where she represented a wide range of authors. Her areas of expertise are broad; she is open to all genres and works as a freelance editor. What Michele doesn’t know about books isn’t worth knowing – she’s a seasoned expert in the field!
Work with Michele if…
You or your novel are based in the US
You’re looking for constructive advice on writing techniques and how to pull your manuscript up to a submission-ready level
You’re looking to submit to agents in the US, and want advice on whether you’ll attract agent attention!
☕️ Cornerstones Editing Café
Having trouble getting stuck in with your self-edits? We know the feeling! If you’ve got a project you’re excited about, but you’d rather clean the inside of your oven than sit down with the red pen (metaphorical or no), we’re here to help and provide a little bit of community. We’d love to bring you our Editing Café: a couple of hours each Friday for focusing on nothing but those dreaded edits, with absolutely no cost or required time commitment.
Let us know if you’d be interested by emailing or tweeting us @CornerstonesLit, and watch this space! The Cornerstones Editing Café will take place over Zoom from 12-2pm on Fridays, and one of the Cornerstones team will be there to give any pointers and encouragement. Whether you’re struggling to wrap your head around POV or working on a tricky bit of restructuring, we’d love to guide you through it. Bring a cup of tea and a sandwich (and a friend!) and edit with us.
Log your interest by emailing Sarah at sconkerton@cornerstones.co.uk 💻
🌷 Last but not least…
Don’t forget our 10% spring discount! Until 25th May, we’re offering 10% off all packages in both the UK and US. Get in touch with the office to secure the discounted rate.
Finally, we’re excited to share some internal news, as Cornerstones founder Helen Corner-Bryant has been appointed an Honorary Research Fellow of the Centre for Publishing, Department of Information Studies at UCL. Here’s a note from her to sign off our newsletter:
After a number of years of guest lecturing and workshopping with the MA Publishing students, I'm delighted and honoured to be made an Honorary Research Fellow of the Centre for Publishing in the Department of Information Studies. Looking forward to more teaching and researching all things editorial!
That’s all from us! Get in touch with us at info@cornerstones.co.uk, or via our website, if you have any queries.
Very best,
The Cornerstones team
