Cornerstones: Updates before Easter from Cornerstones HQ
Exciting events, big news for picture book authors and more!
Dear authors,
We hope you’re looking forward to the upcoming long weekend and some spring sunshine wherever you are! Here at Cornerstones we’ve had a lot happening in the lead up to Easter and wanted to share some of the exciting news and events with you.
Helen Corner-Bryant joined Isabel Ashdown and Kim Squirrell for the event Get Your Novel Noticed, organised by Bridport prize, to talk about bestselling writer tips.

Sad you missed it? Later this month, Helen Corner-Bryant and Cornerstones alumni author Alex Stone will be giving a talk at the Bournemouth Writing Festival. Their panel, a best-selling author’s journey from novel to publication, will be a discussion on all things writerly, editorial, and the joys (and woes) of being published.
For more information about their panel and the rest of the event, as well as how to buy tickets, you can find the Bournemouth Writing Festival website here.
In more exciting news, two of our Cornerstones alum have published new books! Read below to find out more about them. From thrillers to picture books, we’ll always have something to recommend and editors to help with…
Hilly Barmy’s latest book, psychological thriller Never Forgive You, is available for pre-order and will be published on March 26th.
Merlin Finds His Magic has been released and been promoted on the BBC, TV and in WH Smiths travel shops. We can't wait to see where Merlin's adventures take him next... If you want to find out more about Grace’s stellar self-publishing journey, you can read her blog post on our website here.
Keep up the good work!
In other big news for picture book authors, the winner of the 2023 Bath Children’s Novel Award was announced as The Train With No End, a picture book text about the journey of life.
As Cornerstones is paired with the Bath Novel Award and Bath Children’s Novel Award, our head of scouting and Editorial Director, Monica Chakraverty, provides feedback to each longlistee and winners with a hungry eye to submit those that aren’t snapped up by the agent judge.
If winning this prize is a dream of yours, but didn’t quite make it this time, come to us for some editorial support and we’ll tell you what’s working brilliantly and what needs further development.
That’s all from us for now. Let us know how your writing is going, we’d love to hear from you! Don’t forget we offer free feedback on your first ten pages and synopsis if you’re looking to move forward with editorial input.
Why not get in touch with us before Easter, then sit back and relax for the long weekend knowing it’s in good hands!
Very best,
The Cornerstones Team
