With the submissions, I worry that my writing such as spelling or grammar might be a bit weak (it is my weakpoint) for a submission. Would this hamper my chances or is it best to present a highly edited 5,000 word submission?
With spelling and grammar, I'd say that an editor will pick up on that and it may make your submission materials look less polished. But provided any errors are few and far between it shouldn't hamper your chances if the writing, characters and plot are strong they'll be able to recognise that also.
